Beyond Breakups - Embracing A New Beginning

Erase The Guilt In Your Life

filed in Finding Soul on Mar 30, 2009

So many stories I hear and many of them are filled with feelings of guilt.  Guilt does not just come up when we are leaving a relationship.  Guilt will surface during many different types of circumstances and relationships.   Such as feeling guilty that you are not doing enough in a relationship, feeling guilty when you cannot be home with your children because you have to work, or guilty because you said something you think you should not of said.  Guilty because you stood up for yourself for the first time and someone reacted with disapproval.

I think I made my point.  Guilt is the dark shadow that enters our day in many different situation and relationships.

When you feel the guilt, where do you feel it in your body?

If you were not feeling guilt what emotions would you be feeling?

Why are you obsessing over what you did or did not do?

Why do you feel so responsible for someone else's feelings?

When you are feeling guilt, how does that take you away from the present moment?

Consider asking yourself these questions and think of others on your own.  As a professional who has worked with so many people and heard so many stories, I can tell you that guilt serves no purpose and it only keeps you emotionally stuck.   It is a self-punishing type of emotions and will result in you feeling unworthy.

Instead of guilt, practice the act of self-forgiveness, or self compassion.
