Every Relationship Has A Gift
filed in New Beginnings on Jun 2, 2007
The dating world can be very discouraging if you go on the search for the perfect partner. I often hear women and men express the desire to find their soul mate. Someone who is physically, emotionally and intellectually compatible. And of course they must be financial stable, and want to spend the rest of their life with you. So off you go looking for this “magic person”. And when you do not find your perfect match, disappointment can lead to depression.
Consider for a moment that everyone is your soul mate And consider that there are no accidents, that we don’t drift blindly into a relationship. Think about the possibility that there is a divine force that brings people together for a specific purpose, however brief or long term, that moves us along a path of increasing awareness. Whether you have a brief coffee encounter or you live together, relationships provide lessons for our self-learning and growth. In this way everyone is your soul mate.
Ask yourself: Why did I meet this person? How have I changed, and how has the other person effected it? What insights do I have now about myself since I have met this person? Am I afraid of Intimacy? Am I still protecting my heart? Am I still attached to my former partner?
Despite the ups and downs, tears and moments of bliss, each encounter will help you to get to know yourself better. You may rediscover your humor, learn about your strengths, find that your are likeable or realize that you can trust yourself to make the right choices.
Keep asking yourself the questions after each encounter, and receive the gift. If marriage or a long term relationship is meant to happen it will occur in its own time. But always learn the lesson, treasure what is given and look to the future. This path leads to the “real you”.
