Do Not Neglect Your Body
filed in New Beginnings on Jun 3, 2007
I hear many comments such as, “I can’t feel anything anymore”. “I feel like I am tide up in one big knot”; “I am numb I don’t feel sadness, anger or joy”. I move through my life like a machine so I can get everything done”.
The more painful a crisis is, the greater the tendency to leave the body and put yourself on auto pilot so you can deal with the task at hand. You may be over-exercising or a couch potato; over-eating or starving yourself; numbing out or freeking out. All of which is keeping you away from your body and the feelings. Here are some tips on how to appreciate and honor your body.
l. Develop a better relationship with your body. Begin by being present with your body appreciating your body, no matter how it is feeling. It is carrying you around and allowing you to do all the things you need to do. Drop in and ask yourself “how am I feeling”, let go of any judgment and only bring compassion to your body. Give it your time, loving care and gentle presence.
2. Go on a walk start with five (5) minutes. Stretch as you get out of bed in the morning, anyway that feels comfortable, plan one good healthy meal a day, go to a sauna, take a hot tub, stop and rest throughout your day, or get a massage. These are a few of the many ways to develop a better relationship with your body.
When you accept your body, and connect, instead of disconnecting and neglecting, relief will come comparatively quickly and you will develop a deeper connection with your “whole self”.
