Beyond Breakups - Embracing A New Beginning

The Word For Today Is "Stillness"

filed in Mind, Body Connection on Apr 8, 2007

Most of us have been conditioned early on to keep busy with  “success and accomplishment” as the focus.  We are encouraged to keep going know matter how we physically, emotionally or spiritually feel.  The more we get done in a day the better.  We watched our parents always in a hurry.   It was as if they had only one speed “fast”.  That speed became our own, and it became the “norm”.

We have not been taught as children the value in “stillness”.   We most likely never heard anyone say “go sit quietly, take some time to think and reflect”.  And, we didn’t see anyone stop, except maybe Sunday at church. We often heard comments like “what is the matter, don’t you know what you want”, “hurry up and tell me your answer”, phrases that suggest we were not moving, thinking, responding and taking action quick enough.  Can anyone relate to this?

There is an over emphasis on action and “stillness” is undervalued.  We must value and create moments of stillness in our life where we are quiet and still. Here is where we get to know ourselves in a different way.   It is with the stillness that we can find the real direction and answers to our questions.   There is nothing wrong with doing and taking action, but the right action is what you want.   The action that is aligned with your “real self”.  The action that is guided by your deeper wisdom.

Slow down, take a moment of stillness and turn inward.   Practice this when you can. You will slowly begin to hear a different voice emerge.
