What To Do When You Are Overwhelmed

filed in New Beginnings on Mar 8, 2007

I personally know how easily one can become overwhelmed in this very demanding world.    Especially, if you are in a transisition such as starting a new life and living alone again. So many changes and demands, that can cause you to become stressed and loose you inner peace. These are some things I do, that may help you.

First –  Let go of the future & Let Go Of Control - Get up in the morning, let go of the things you cannot control, avoid or alter.  Check in with yourself as to what you need to do today that is in your control.   Take one day at a time and set small short term realistic goals.

Second Slow Down You are Not In A Race –   Often the more stressed you are under the faster you will physically move.  Instruct yourself to walk slow, even talk slower.  When you slow down physically you are more likely to stay in our body and more of you will show up for what you have to do.

Third Focus on Your Accomplishments –  Often we mentally obsess over what we have not done, this only creates more stress.  Focus on the things you do well and you were able to do.  Praise yourself daily for your accomplishments.   You are your best friend.

FourthKeep Balanced – Body, Mind– Spirit – Do not ignore yourself, nurture your body, your mind and your spirit.  Find time and give attention to each part of yourself however small it may be.   For the body, stretch, take a hot bath; for the mind, read some poetry a good book or journal, for the spirit, listen to music, go to a spiritual service, take a walk in the park.   These are only a few suggestions,  follow your own guidance.
