Beyond Breakups - Embracing A New Beginning

Developing A Relationship To Your Body

filed in Mind, Body Connection on Mar 11, 2007

Developing a better relationship with yourself, means being connected to your body. I believe this is one of the most important parts of healing.  There is a strong relationship between your feelings and your body.  So you must reconnect to your body in order to fully grieve all of your losses.  Check in with your body. Ask questions.  Write about your pain ( emotional or physical).  Are you confused, frustrated, scared, sad, vulnerable, angry or fearful?   How long have you had these feelings?  Where are the feelings located in your body?  Describe the sensations.  For example, are you  numb tight, soft, open, warm,  cold?  Where do you feel the tension?  Describe The tension and let the images come through.  Write about them. Keep asking yourself questions throughout your day.  Why does my chest or back hurt? Why can’t I sleep or eat?  Why do I have this headache or stomach ache?

Now write about everything you wanted from your parents, but did not get.  Next, write about everything you wanted from your husband or significant partner and did not get. Keep this list to yourself.  You might find that it is similar. Old unresolved losses need to be healed. All feelings must be unconditionally accepted before they cease to cause physical or emotional pain.  When we acknowledge our pain and losses we begin to heal our body and our heart.
