An Open Heart Christmas Season

filed in New Beginnings on Dec 7, 2006

Feeling tense during the holiday season?  Does holiday tree trimming, mall hopping, Christmas carolers, present wrapping, Santa visiting and chestnuts roasting leave you with mixed emotions.  Are you showing up for these events with only half of yourself.  Are you forgetting  that the most important gift you can give is the gift of  yourself.  Your true authentic open hearted self.  Fully present in the moment.

Have you been an over achiever, over functioner and over giver?   Do you believed that the more you do the better person you are?  Has this burnout become a Christmas event?

There has been many changes in your world since the separation/divorce and many losses. And this holiday season can be challenging.  Be patience, loving with yourself, and do not worry about doing your holidays like everyone else.  Create them the way that expresses who you are. That could look like volunteering, having a pot luck with friends, going on a retreat, taking the kids to a movie.   The most important is your open heart.  Here are some further tips to meet the challenges of the holiday season.

l.  Stay present and honor your feelings

2.  Persist in creating new rituals & traditions.

3.  Plan ahead and let go of wishing for what use to be

4.  Avoid holiday over spending.

5.  Reach out for support

6.  Stay in a place of gratefulness
