Giving yourself a good holiday

You are forging ahead in your single life and have made it through some of the difficult spots. Now you are facing a holiday season and wondering how to proceed. Here are some tips to help you get through this challenging time, when you would rather pretend these holidays do not exist.
l. Stay present and honor yourself and your feelings – Do not abandon yourself. Stop, look and listen to how you are feeling. Treat yourself the way you want other to treat you.
2. Be persistent in creating new rituals and traditions for yourself – Continue to rebuild your new life, with new friends, new activities. This will keep you moving forward along you new path.
3. Plan ahead and let go of wishing for what use to be – Plan, but do not insist that things be a certain way. You holidays need not look like everyone else’s. Be creative and keep an open mind.
4. Avoid over spending during the holidays – Over spending can be a way to manage our loneliness. Give yourself a budget. Shop at discount stores, make gifts and exchange favors with your family and friends.
5. Volunteer your time to help others – Selfless service is a spiritual principle. Reach out and give to others during the holidays.
6. Stay grateful – Make a list every day of what you are grateful for. It can simple be grateful for the weather, an easy drive to work, a friendly smile by someone. Then you will be able to see more of the good in your life.
7. Praise yourself for your efforts – Self love is the medicine you will need to get through difficult times. Know that we grow the most when we are stretch beyond what we think we can do. Give yourself a daily hug.
